Introduction to Interfaith Continued

Interfaith is a process of people coming together, committed to their respective religions and spiritual paths for the purpose of mutual understanding, appreciation and enrichment. This process is often termed interfaith dialogue. The dialogue has a positive and deliberate connotation, a sense of offering space, openness and respect, thereby contrasting with e.g. a dispute or confrontation. It can be informal or formal, internal to oneself, between neighbors, among community groups, right up to large international gatherings. The venue can be a church, temple, mosque, or a house, street, bus, etc. The use of the word faith recognizes the personal commitment of the practitioner.

Our integral interfaith collaboration is also about how the wisdom, power and compassion of one's spirituality and experience can be utilized to create a more spiritually tolerant and better world. It covers areas such as interfaith guidelines, interfaith collective social activism and co-intelligent interfaith collaborations on social issue position papers, etc.

One of the goals of this section is to use position papers from other areas of this website on key spiritual, social and material issues of life as a starting positional foundation. Then seek a broader endorsement of those social advocacy positions in the interfaith community. Once the broader interfaith community has refined and endorsed the upgraded position papers they will be published and widely distributed to the general public and media. Thus bringing wise and urgently needed ethical spiritual leverage to many of the critical problems the world must resolve in order to flourish.

Integrative Spirituality's approach to integral interfaith is focused upon promoting a special type of dialog between individuals, where the individuals share their most profound, direct personal spiritual experiences of the Ever Present Origin. (This type of dialog is aided by the interfaith dialog guidelines found in the interfaith articles section below.) When individuals share their most profound personal spiritual experiences, it helps to transcend while yet still honoring, the personality differences, cultural differences and even differences in spiritual beliefs and practices within the group.

In these online or group experiences while listening or reading the most profound transformative, direct spiritual experiences of others, the participants usually have spiritual experiences of their own. These include significant renewal, an expansion of their own spiritual wisdom and compassionate power, and a sense of spiritual wholeness and connectedness.

Through this unique and focused sharing of one's deepest spiritual experiences (vs. sharing religious beliefs, practices etc.,) religious tolerance and the sense of community significantly and naturally improves. The outcome is co-operation and collaboration toward creating a just, healthier, and more peaceful world for all.

Another way we promote the benefits of interfaith activities is through promoting the non-denominational World Spirituality Day on the last day of each year. For more information on this, click here.

Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions (CPWR) - initiates dialogues and nurtured relationships among people of difference. In doing so the Council has provided a framework for expressing many visions of a just, peaceful and sustainable future. In the process, religious and spiritual communities have discovered a shared commitment to ethical principles. This shared commitment has opened the way for a new era of cooperative action among the world's religious and spiritual communities as well as with the world's other guiding institutions. The well-being of the Earth and all life depends on such a collaboration.

The Interfaith Alliance - is a non-partisan, clergy-led grassroots organization dedicated to promoting the positive, healing role of faith in civic life and challenging intolerance and extremism. On Capitol Hill, through community and online activism, and by focusing media coverage, we work to safeguard religious liberty, ensure civil rights, restore good government, strengthen the public education system, eradicate poverty, and champion a safe and clean environment.

The Center for Global Ethics - coordinates the work of thinkers, scholars and activists from around the world, who are working to define, implement and promote policies of responsible global citizenship. As profoundly interconnected members of a global community, we recognize the need to develop and advance the acceptance of a viable and sustainable Global Ethic.

The International Interfaith Centre - was inaugurated in Oxford, UK on 6 December1993, inspired by the 1993 Year of Interreligious Understanding and Cooperation. As a result of the increasing amount and variety of interfaith activity around the world, it was perceived that a need could be met by an international, interfaith centre which was informed about all these different efforts and able to encourage continuing interfaith understanding and cooperation.

Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) - is a thirty-year-old international coalition of 275 faith-based institutional investors including denominations, religious communities, pension funds, healthcare corporations, foundations and dioceses with combined portfolios worth an estimated $100 billion. As responsible stewards, they merge social values with investment decisions, believing they must achieve more than an acceptable financial return. ICCR members utilize religious investments and other resources to change unjust or harmful corporate policies, working for peace, economic justice and stewardship of the Earth.

The North American Interfaith Network - is a non-profit association of interfaith organizations and agencies in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) - seeks to replace violence, war, racism, and economic injustice with nonviolence, peace, and justice. We are an interfaith organization committed to active nonviolence as a transforming way of life and as a means of radical change. We educate, train, build coalitions, and engage in nonviolent and compassionate actions locally, nationally, and globally.

The World Conference on Religion and Peace - is the largest international coalition of representatives from the world's great religions who are dedicated to achieving peace. Respecting cultural differences while celebrating our common humanity, WCRP is active on every continent and in some of the most troubled places on earth, creating multi-religious partnerships that mobilize the moral and social resources of religious people to address their shared problems.

The Peace Council - mission is to demonstrate that peace is possible, and that effective interreligious collaboration to make peace also is possible. In a world where religion too often is used to justify division, hatred, and violence -- and very seldom used to relieve these problems -- the Peace Councilors offer an alternative: the example of religious leaders working effectively together to relieve suffering and make the world whole.

The World Network of Religious Futurists - exists as a leadership development ministry to advance the future of religion by empowering people to think creatively and critically about the future of society, and to reinvent their ministry in light of those new contexts.
