  • The most critical global warming and climate change deadlines

Global warming is accelerating. The following survival-critical deadlines should be kept in mind.

Knowing and using these deadlines prevents panic and allows adequate time for the necessary emergency preparations and adaptations. The first deadline is the most important because if we fail to reach the required 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, there is not a lot left we can do to save the future of humanity.

Here are the critical global warming and climate change deadlines to remember:

The 5-year, 2025 deadline: We still can maintain some control of our global warming future and slow down an extinction event for most of humanity by mid-century, but only by getting very close to these 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets.

The 7-year, 2027 deadline (if we miss the 2025 targets): from 2020 to 2027, global warming consequences will steadily worsen in a rising linear progression. If you have prepared, adapted, and are in a global warming safer location before 2027, relative stability and security is probable until about 2030 to 2040. (See this page, which discusses the most reliable and least safe places to ride out the global warming emergency.)

If you have not prepared and adapted to the new global warming realities, this is where life will begin to get a lot harder for a lot more of us.

The 10-year, 2030 deadline (if we miss the 2025 targets): After 2030, many new climate, human, ecological, political, and financial points of no return and tipping points will be rapidly crossed due to both global warming and these 12 other global challenges also getting worse. The stability and security of even the safest and best prepared global warming safer locations will become increasingly uncertain.

The 10-20 year, 2030-2040 deadline (even if we reach the 2025 targets): Beginning around 2030, the frequency, severity, and size of global warming consequences will move from its previous linear progression into an exponential progression.

Stability and security for even the best prepared global warming safer locations will become considerably more difficult.

The 30-year, 2050 deadline (if we miss the 2025 targets): From 2030-2050 will be the most challenging period to survive for most of humanity. Generally, things will be only slightly better in global warming safer locations

By mid-century, mass extinction for most of humanity will be unavoidable.

The 50-year deadline (if we miss the 2025 targets): We will face the worst consequences of runaway global warming, and we will be heading toward the even worse runaway greenhouse gas effect, which ripped the atmosphere off Venus.

If this occurs, humanity will likely face total extinction sometime around or before 2070-2100.

Do you still think new technologies will save us from our actions at the last minute?

There are those people who believe that geoengineering, carbon capture, or some other new miracle technology will ride in like a knight on a white horse just in time to save humanity from the natural consequences of its actions, inactions, and mistakes. Click here to read about why this "technology will save us" fairy tale will not happen or will be "far too little far too late" to save us.

  • The Climate Cliff does not occur in 2025. We already went over it in 2015

What has been known as the climate cliff is the climate point you go over which begins the runaway global warming process.

(At the end of this article, you will find a link to a comprehensive four-part plan for what you can do to help manage global warming. To counterbalance these disruptive facts, in this article, you will also find a link to the many surprising benefits that you will experience as we work toward resolving this great challenge, opportunity, and evolutionary adventure.)

    Introduction

The not-for-profit Job One for Humanity organization is primarily a place focused on educating individuals and businesses on how to both survive and thrive through the coming climate change and global warming challenges

You are about to read some horrible climate change and global warming news. The good news is that there are still many things we can do to improve our global warming future.

At the end of this document, we have provided links to a practical plan to manage escalating global warming. We have also provided a link to the many benefits we will achieve as we face this emergency and enact the needed actions to manage its consequences. You will be surprised by the benefits that you (and humanity) will acquire as we resolve this challenge, opportunity, and adventure while never forgetting, "our greatest challenges are also our greatest opportunities."

The not so good news. . .

Before discussing the more up-to-date climate cliff, it is essential to understand the idea of runaway global warming. It means that global warming will increase on a runaway course. Imagine a train going down a hill with no functional brakes and you have a good concept of it! Runaway global warming will also continue, of, and by itself with no practical way to stop or control it.

In our 2016-17 analysis, using the existing fossil fuel infrastructure, we at Job One calculated that the first climate cliff for triggering a runaway crossing of more and more amplifying global warming tipping points would occur between carbon 425 to carbon 450 ppm and at a 2 degrees Celcius temperature increase over preindustrial levels. Due to new research and a re-analysis of older studies, the updated carbon ppm level and temperature associated with the climate cliff has changed.

The beginning temperature limits for the former climate cliff needs to be updated from its previous temperature level of 2 -2.7° C above preindustrial levels to its new climate cliff starting point, which is staying below an average global temperature increase of 1.5C.

One of the major reasons for the new 1.5C climate cliff temperature level now being acknowledged among recognized climate scientists is that there are considerably more atmospheric carbon emissions than was previously predicted. These additional carbon emissions come from other amplifying carbon feedbacks and carbon sink failures. This additional carbon feedback and carbon sink issue will start to show up as a 1.5C average global temperature increase as soon as 2025. (The amplifying carbon feedbacks and carbon sink failures will be described in detail further below.)

Newer research also shows that staying at or below a 1.5 C average global temperature increase level (above preindustrial levels) is the only temperature level that excludes the runaway global warming threat or continuing to cross additional critical global warming tipping points. What this really means is that going above 1.5C would eventually lead to the mass extinction of most of humanity by mid-century.

Staying below the older 2C average global temperature increase only minimizes the possibility, but does not exclude, the mass extinction of most of humanity by mid-century. (Please note that this older 2C limit calculations by the United Nations IPCC did not include adequate tipping point calculations, it did wrongly include magical compensatory carbon capture calculations for technology that might not exist for thirty years, and it did not include many other critical calculation factors described here.)

By mid-century when the suffering and survival of most of humanity is at stake, just minimizing the current global warming extinction threat is insane! Additionally, in its eventual effect, any average global temperature increases above 2C is moot.

It is moot because any temperature increase of 1.5 to 2C also triggers runaway global warming and a mass extinction event fueled by crossing ever more critical global warming tipping points! And, if nothing is done by our governments to radically slow and reverse any temperature increases above 1.5C that are reached, total extinction will also be our eventual future.

Supporting this 1.5C new climate cliff is also the Siberia permafrost field research (rather than less accurate computer modeling) by Anton Vaks. This research puts the global permafrost "thaw-down" at 1.5C. This Siberian research means that when the world's permafrost crosses this 1.5C average global temperature increase tipping point, the world's permafrost begins a near-continuous meltdown. This means that after we reach this 1.5 C temperature increase, all permafrost stored carbon and methane will eventually be released from the permafrost.

This 1.5C permafrost release point plus other human-made carbon and methane releases put us squarely on the fast track for the worst global warming prediction scenarios. (Click here for more documentation on the permafrost meltdown.)

The big climate cliff shocker. . .

The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has calculated that reaching carbon CO2 of 420 ppm is a 1.6C average global temperature increase from preindustrial levels. (Ref UN Carbon Brief 5 April 2020.)

If we can stay below a 1.5C temperature increase, we would have to have kept our atmospheric carbon level below about 386 ppm, but as of 2020, we are already at carbon 414 ppm. (Click here to see the current monthly and yearly amounts for carbon ppm in the atmosphere.)

Crossing this 386 carbon ppm level also means that 2014-2015 was around the time that we had already crossed over the 1.5C correct climate cliff. Because we went over the climate cliff in 2015, and because any average global temperature increase of 1.5 to 2C triggers runaway global warming, we now have to face we are already in a state of runaway global warming and that we can no longer stop a mass human extinction event by mid-century, but we can slow it down if we reach the 2025 targets.

Yes, you read that correctly! At this time, all we can do now is slow and delay this mass extinction event consequence and it will take a government-driven mass mobilization. This government-driven mass mobilization would have to radicallyreduce global fossil fuel use to get very close to the difficult to reach 2025 targets.

If the world governments do act immediately and reach the last chance 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, more people will live longer and a bit more comfortably. And, maybe we can still save humanity from the only thing worse than mass extinction, - - - total extinction!

And finally, the most important thing to remember from this new research update on the older climate cliff level is that we have already fallen over the 1.5C, carbon 386 ppm climate cliff. We are on the pathway to mass extinction by mid-century.

Unless our governments get us to the 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, runaway global warming will move so fast that we will not be able to stop the total extinction of humanity and the collapse of civilization.

The carbon feedback loops, carbon sinks, points of no return, and tipping points that are occurring after we crossed the carbon 386 ppm climate cliff

    1. Decreased albedo from reduced snow cover and melting Arctic ice increasing the earth's heat,

    2. Increased sea ice and glacier melt resulting in additional sea-level rise,

    3. Increased atmospheric water vapor increases resulting in more extreme weather,

    4. Increased permafrost and tundra heating releasing more carbon and methane and which results in more heat and more disease epidemics and possible pandemics. This once again speeds up the whole process of more positive feedback loops and crossing more points of no return and tipping points

Please also note that melting permafrost in the tundra is because the northernmost areas are also warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. This permafrost melting also has the potential to cause new local and global pandemics caused by ancient viruses and bacteria being released from the permafrost. Already in Siberia they have had localized anthrax and smallpox outbreaks because of the decomposition of ancient frozen animals from the melting permafrost and tundra which residents either had no immunity to and who were not prepared to deal with these outbreaks due to lack of available vaccines.

    5. Decreased carbon capture from the world's forests as temperatures rise and forests go from removing carbon from the atmosphere to carbon-neutral, no longer removing carbon from the atmosphere. Carbon neutral is the state that occurs before overheated over-stressed forests begin to release carbon back into the atmosphere.

(Click here to learn more about each item listed above.)

Here is the most likely keystone tipping point to be crossed after crossing the carbon 386 climate cliff

There is am extinction-accelerating tipping point area that is the most likely first candidate to significantly worsen the beginning of the end of humanity. It is the increased melting of summer and year-round arctic polar ice due to global warming.

It will truly have profound effects not only on worldwide weather but more importantly, on lowering global crop yields and increasing global crop failures. It will cause an accelerating massive global starvation, which will then also destabilize national economics, politics, and society.

In the summer, when Arctic ice melts there is less cooling of all of the growing season areas affected anywhere by arctic weather. The more polar ice melts each year the less cooling and the more heat in and during these critical growing season areas.

To make matters worse, food crops are more sensitive to heat when there are droughts and, they are more sensitive to heat, rain bombs, and cold spells when they are just beginning to grow. Unfortunately, because more ice is melting in the Arctic ocean almost every summer and staying melted longer in the year we are losing more and more critical cooling for our absolutely vital food crop growing season.

The five major food grains are the largest source of the world's food supply. They are corn, wheat, rice, soybeans, and sorghum.

All of these grains have upper and lower temperature limits. Most of them cannot survive more than 10 days during their growing season over 100° Fahrenheit particularly, if this heat comes early in their growing season or when their soils are drought dry.

Because of the continually increasing loss of the cooling effect on growing regions below the Arctic because of the continually diminishing Arctic ice, the number of growing season days with temperatures over 100° will continue increasing steadily as more and more Arctic ice melts and remains melted longer throughout the year.

Because melting Arctic ice also affects and disrupts the jet stream and ocean currents like the Gulf Stream, you will also have radical and unseasonable cold spells appearing during the prime crop growing seasons around the world. This will also reduce food yields and produce more crop failures during the fragile growing season.

This means that the world is going to continue to experience more and larger crop reductions and failures as more polar ice melts and stays melted longer. To make matters even worse, corn is one of the largest food staples for humanity and it is also one of the most sensitive crops to increasing 100 degrees plus temperatures and drought.

    The following is from Wikipedia:

“Since 1979, the minimum annual area of sea ice in the Arctic has dropped by about 40%, as measured each September. From sea ice models and recent satellite images, it can be expected that a sea ice-free summer will come before 2020.Models that best match historical trends project a nearly ice-free Arctic in the summer by the 2030s. However, these models do tend to underestimate the rate of sea ice loss since 2007.” (If you would like to see a video of how more polar ice is melting each summer as the years go by click here for this NASA video.)

The increasing melting of arctic polar ice is a clear warning sign of increasing global warming and future serious reductions in major future crop yields as well as serious increases in future crop failures. This means not only higher prices but ever-increasing food scarcity and increasing global starvation.

This is not something far-off in the future. It is already happening in many areas of the world.

It is also already causing major migrations. This expanding and increasing polar ice melting is a major “canary in the coal mine” for increasing future mass starvation not way off in 2100 as we have been told but in the near years and new few decades to follow.

Already in the growing belt of the United States, we are seeing increased and record-breaking heat, droughts, rain bombs, and other extreme seasonal weather that is having a direct effect in reducing crop yields and crop failures in the most vulnerable areas. This pattern of greater crop yield reductions and crop failures will continue to increase as long as more polar ice disappears and the Arctic remains relatively ice-free into longer and longer summers. As the process of massive crop reductions and failures expand and continues, mass starvation will begin to destabilize all of our other economic, social, and political systems.

Additionally, reduced polar ice also reduces the albedo effect, which simply is that white snow or ice reflects heat back away from the earth and out into the atmosphere keeping the earth cooler. As more Arctic polar ice is melted the darker polar oceans absorb the heat, and then heat up more, which once again, causes more global warming.

As temperatures continue rising, the time frames in which we will be crossing more of the tipping points listed above will get shorter. But that will not be the only significant effect of melting Arctic ice due to global warming. Paradoxically, according to new studies, because of melting Arctic ice we will also have more extreme cold and heavier snows during the US winters.

In general, increased crop yield reductions and crop failures will increasingly occur because of arctic ice melt, increased heat, increased droughts, increase cold spells and increased extreme weather storms that will make it more and more impossible for modern agriculture and the major food crops to survive throughout their current growing seasons. There are estimates that crop yield reductions and crop failures will average 5 to 10% or more for each degree that the average global temperature rises until the planet becomes so warm that far too many days of the growing season will be at 100° or more. This will make successfully growing the world's major grains all but impossible.

The current climate cliff and 1.5C temperature increase threshold was the last threshold for excluding humanity's mass extinction threat by mid-century. Staying below 1.5C was also the last threshold where we still could have prevented a significant acceleration in crossing other more dangerous global warming tipping points. Without even reading the four other extinction-accelerating tipping points in this link, one can see that while you do your best to encourage our governments to meet the 2025 targets, it is also now wise to start your personal global warming emergency backup plan and "Plan B!"

What is happening now that we have already gone over the carbon 386 climate cliff

Click here for what is happening now and going to happen now that we have gone well over the climate cliff. It will explain the four extinction-accelerating global warming tipping points that we are racing towards and what we must do to prevent extinction!

    In summary

Climate researchers have been saying for years that "by the time our governments and populations realize the real, soon-arriving extinction threats of accelerating global warming, it will be too late to prevent its worst consequences. Now that we have fallen over the climate cliff and are just a mere 3-5 years away from the next extinction-accelerating global warming tipping point, it looks like they may have been right.

The essential positive perspective on the above disruptive global warming and climate change news

Despite the many types of challenging global warming consequences and past fossil fuel reduction mistakes that we now face, we can still learn from their feedback, and we can adapt and evolve to make life as good and as happy as is possible. No matter how severe the coming global warming consequences might become, if we wisely play the remaining cards that we have been dealt, we can still achieve the best remaining possible outcomes

We can yet make a significant difference to reduce global fossil fuel use to stabilize and save the future of humanity by executing a comprehensive reduction and survival plan like the Job One for Humanity global warming action plan

We can still maintain the perseverance needed to succeed in this monumental task by regularly reviewing the many benefits which will unfold as we work successfully on this together. (Click here to review those benefits.)

We can persevere through this time of emergency. We just need to remember that our greatest challenges are also the seeds of our greatest opportunities.

We are engaged in nothing less than the most critical and meaningful evolutionary opportunity, challenge, and adventure in human history! It is our last opportunity to slow down the mass human extinction threat by getting close to these 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets. Only reaching these targets will fully remove the total extinction threat. In reaching these targets, we also significantly improve many of the world's other 12 major challenges.

Get started today on the Job One for Humanity global warming reduction and survival plan. Help save and salvage as much of humanity and our beautiful civilization as is possible.

    Technical Notes

    1. The United Nations report that to avoid 2C global emissions had to be in decline from 2015. It is evident from the carbon graph above we did not do that. If we did not meet the goal of staying of declining atmospheric carbon since 2015, remaining below 1.5C is all but impossible. Click here to see this UN report.

    2. Please note that the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) 2014 AR5 2C mitigation scenario (RCP2.6) required the removal of CO2. The 2018 IPCC 1.5C report had CO2 removal and sequestration for all 1.5C scenarios. We currently have no capacity for CO2 removal at any scale and nothing for it in the foreseeable future.

MIT says CO2 removal would take 30 years for carbon capture to happen. Therefore, we have, in essence, gone over the climate cliff from multiple prediction perspectives.

  • The nine most important facts to know about global warming and climate change based on today's most current science

The nine facts in this article are the facts that most other environmental groups are afraid to tell you. Once you understand them, you will be better prepared for what is happening now and what is coming.

We are not asking you to accept these disruptive facts blindly. We have provided links to their scientific documentation and analysis (found on this page or website.)

At the end of this article, you will find a link to a comprehensive four-part plan for what you can do to help manage global warming.

To counterbalance these disruptive facts, in this article, you will also find a link to the many surprising benefits that you will experience as we work toward resolving this great challenge, opportunity, and evolutionary adventure.

Because psychologists say it is better to get the bad news out of the way before the good news, here are essential facts you should know about today's climate change and global warming emergency:

Fact 1: Our governments were not prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. They are even more unprepared for the global warming emergency. Our governments have ignored 35 years of global warming warnings by our best scientists, just like many of them have ignored the advice of our best pandemic scientists.

Fact 2: Our governments are not telling us the truth about how bad global warming is going to get. Many catastrophic consequences are going to arrive far sooner than we have been told. Some catastrophic consequences are already unavoidable!

Fact 3: We have reached the point where only a government-driven world mass mobilization (similar to the mass mobilization that occurred before World War II) can save us in time. It is far too late for individual actions alone to achieve the fossil fuel reductions required to save us from a global catastrophe. (Part 3 of the Job One for Humanity Plan will show you how our governments can complete the required mass mobilization to save us in time.)

Fact 4: If we keep going the way we are now, our governments are about five years away (2025) from missing our last chance to reduce global fossil fuel use sufficiently to control our futures and prevent human extinction. This 2025 target will require us to reduce total global fossil use by 75%.

Yes, you read that right. The 75% global fossil fuel reduction target means that all developed countries (including China and India,) must reduce all auto, train, shipping, airline, industrial, agricultural, and home uses of fossil fuels by 75% to meet their 2025 targets! (Click here for all the 2025 target technical details.)

Fact 5: Missing this 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets means that global warming moves our of our meaningful control and we will not be able to prevent the most catastrophic of global warming consequences from occurring. If we fail to meet the 2025 targets, the laws of climate physics will take over. We will not be able to stop the collapse of world agriculture, the world economy, and civilization. If we allow world agriculture to collapse the human population will starve and collapse.

Even worse, such a runaway global heating (as warned by the UN Secretary General and the UN Climate Secretariat) would render Planet Earth uninhabitable. This would happen because we will not be able to stop ourselves from crossing four extinction-evoking global warming tipping points. Runaway means the thing that is on a runaway course (in this case global warming,) will continue on, by and of itself, and it is out of practical control. (Click here to read about the four extinction-evoking tipping points.)

Fact 6: Despite horrible odds for not reaching the 2025 targets, it is technically possible to reach them with an immediate all-out and united global governmental response and mass mobilization. If our governments get us close to these targets, at least we can slow down (but not stop) a mass human, animal, and plant extinction event. This mass extinction event would kill off most of humanity by about mid-century.

Because of these unthinkable consequences, we must do everything we can to meet the 2025 targets and slow down the extinction process. (Click here to read how challenging it will be to reach these fossil fuel reduction targets.)

Fact 7: Only by getting close to the 2025 targets and successfully dealing with these 12 other critical global challenges, can we give ourselves the needed time to prevent an even worse total human extinction event from occurring around 2070 to 2100. (If you think either these mass or total extinction threats are overstated, see this recent scientific summary by respected climate scientists.)

Fact 8: Unfortunately, we are far behind in reducing global warming sufficiently to get even close to the 2025 global reduction targets. We are also failing miserably to deal with the 12 other critical global challenges that are interacting with global warming. This, therefore, is NOW the time for wise individuals to create a personal survival backup plan. This Plan B is a global warming emergency preparation, adaptation, and survival plan that might also include relocation to global warming safer areas.

With your Plan B in place, you can still "keep working for the best possible global warming outcomes after you have prepared your family and business for the soon-arriving disastrous outcomes." (Click here to see the many best possible outcomes.)

By having a personalized Plan B, you can survive longer and more comfortably. If we can get through the global warming extinction emergency, you will have also preserved your opportunity to once again thrive. (Click here to see our Job One for Humanity Plan B. Plan B will also help save and salvage as much of our civilization as we can for as long as we can.)

Fact 9: Global warming is accelerating. The following survival-critical deadlines should be kept in mind. Knowing and using these deadlines prevents panic and allows adequate time for the necessary emergency preparations and adaptations.

Here are the critical deadlines to remember:

    1. The 5-year deadline: We can slow down a mass extinction event by mid-century and maintain some control of our global warming future, but only by getting very close to the 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets.
    2. The 7-year deadline: If we miss the 2025 fossil fuel reduction target, from 2020 to 2027 global warming consequences will steadily get worse in a linear progression. If you have prepared, adapted, and are in a global warming safer location before 2027, relative stability and security for your family and business is probable until about 2030 to as long as 2040. (See this page, which discusses the safest and least safe places to ride out the global warming emergency.)
    3. The 10-year deadline if we miss the 2025 targets: After 2030 many additional climate, human, ecological, political, and financial tipping points will be crossed due to both global warming and these 12 other global challenges also getting worse. The stability and security of even the safest and best prepared global warming safer locations will become increasingly uncertain.
    4. The 10-20 year deadline: Beginning around 2030, the frequency, severity, and size of global warming consequences will move from a linear progression into an exponential progression. Stability and security for even the safest and best prepared global warming safer locations will become considerably more difficult.
    5. The 30-year deadline if we miss the 2025 targets: By mid-century mass extinction for most of humanity is unavoidable. From 2030-2050 will be the most difficult period to survive for most of humanity. Generally, things will be only slightly better in global warming safer locations.
    6. The 50-year deadline if we miss the 2025 targets: We will face the worst consequences of runaway global warming and we will be heading toward the runaway greenhouse gas effect which ripped the atmosphere off Venus. Humanity will likely face total extinction sometime around 2070-2100.

There are those people who believe that geoengineering, carbon capture, or some other new miracle technology will ride in like a knight on a white horse just in time to save humanity from the natural consequences of its actions, inactions, and mistakes. Click here to read about why this technology will save us fairy tale is not going to happen or will be "too little too late" to save us.

An essential positive perspective on the above disruptive global warming and climate change facts

We can yet make a significant difference to reduce global fossil fuel use stabilize and save the future of humanity by executing a comprehensive reduction and survival plan like the Job One for Humanity global warming action plan

It is our last opportunity to slow down the mass human extinction threat and to fully remove the total extinction threat. In so doing, we also significantly improve many of the world's other 12 major challenges.

Get started today on the Job One for Humanity global warming reduction and survival plan. Help save and salvage as much of humanity and our beautiful civilization as is possible.

A quick summary of the above

There is just one immediate fact to know and focus upon concerning our climate change and global warming future. If we get this one right, most of the other problems will take care of themselves.

If our world governments do not immediately execute a mass mobilization of the necessary resources to reduce global fossil fuel use by 75% by 2025, most of humanity will be dead by mid-century.

That is all you really need to remember and focus on. If you do not believe what we have said above is accurate, click here to see precisely how this global warming nightmare will unfold.

  • Happy Earth Day 2020, A Surprise Message

We have a surprise Earth Day message for you in this monthly newsletter. This may be one of our very best newsletters in the last 12 years.

We have included the best April blog articles dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the global warming emergency and, we have a new section called guest editorial.

    Our Surprise Earth Day Message

Could Nature be warning us through the COVID-19 global pandemic and the ever-escalating global warming emergency to "repent" our over-consuming, over-polluting, and unsustainable lifestyles and livelihoods before we experience a Great Collapse?

In the first line of this posting, we say that the COVID-19 global pandemic and the ever-escalating global warming emergency are "telling" us to "repent" our over-consuming, over-polluting, and unsustainable lifestyles and livelihoods. Repent is a word that you do not often hear on websites focused on science, but that is where we are on this Earth Day 2020. Repent means to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin. The good news here is that genuine remorse usually propels life turnarounds and real improvement.

    Is repenting appropriate?

Even people who love the environment are still doing much they know that hurts the environment. When you then include all of the individuals living lifestyles and livelihoods with no care or concern for the harm they are doing to the environment, you can see how it could be wise to start this Earth Day with humble repentance for our collective and individual ongoing wrongdoings against the Earth and her biological systems.

The big problem appears to be that we are not listening very well to the increasing loud consequence feedback (COVID-19, escalating global warming, etc.,) that Mother Earth is giving us about our polluting and over-consuming behaviors. Once we fully allow ourselves to sincerely feel and express remorse for what we are still doing to the Earth (and what we are not doing for the Earth,) we should be more inspired to do more to protect the Earth (and ourselves,) from the Great Collapse that is likely coming.

Many of you probably expected us to tell you about all of the positive progress we are making during the COVID-19 pandemic and with the global warming emergency. You most likely also did not expect us to ask you to repent, but there are several good reasons for this:

1.) We caused the COVID Pandemic. Yes, you read that right. (Click here to read the new COVID-19 article that explains this. Then click here for a second article that takes you into the biggest COVID-19 picture.)

2.) We are not making the needed progress on the escalating global warming emergency and many of our other major global challenges.

Because of our critical failures to act as needed to protect our beautiful Earth, remorse for our inaction or failures is now an essential and appropriate step critical to clearing out and moving beyond our past failures so we may make a new and better path to the future.

For many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic is also a cathartic time, and we are re-evaluating our lives, even using the pandemic shelter-in-place order for a personal retreat. If we utilize the appropriate and needed remorse at this crucial time, our COVID-19 pandemic "retreats" will be more fruitful.

Take the time to deeply feel and express your remorse (to both your self and your friends,) for what we are still doing to destroy Mother NatureHopefully, this new level of heartfelt remorse will then propel you to new levels of positive, sustainable actions and help you expand your proactive engagement in doing your part to help lessen the global warming extinction emergency.

Several last thoughts before this month's guest editorial and our best new articles for April

If you don't like the suffering you are going through with COViD-19, you will absolutely hate what is coming with the escalating global warming emergency. While we can do little about COVID-19 until a vaccine is found, there is still time to do a lot about our global warming emergency. We can take action before it too blows up in our faces and brings us far more suffering than COVID-19 ever will. We can do two things at once. We can deal with COVID-19 while we also radically reduce our individual and collective fossil fuel use to hit the life-critical 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets.

This Earth Day do not forget to sign the global warming emergency petition to our government leaders if you have not done so already!

And finally, please do not forget to help support our non-profit mission us with your tax-deductible donations during this difficult time! There are also donation links for this at the bottom of the page.

ONE HOT HEALTH MESS: CRISIS OR CRISES?

We Are Really in It Now

An overarching, all-consuming crisis has gripped us…..we are now in a global emergency, with a shared threat to all of humanity. Millions, if not billions of people would be threatened if the crisis were to unfold unimpeded. It is not an exaggeration to say that we are all threatened.

The crisis reminds us that we ultimately live subject to the laws of nature – moreover, it does not care about political parties or national borders.

Scientists have warned us for decades that this crisis was coming – it was not a matter of if, but when. Denial, delayed responses, and lack of preparation have allowed the crisis to explode – despite all the warnings. Now we are really in it. Graphs depicting the calamity are deeply unnerving, with hockey-stick-like upward trajectories.

This is an invisible threat, difficult to grasp; it is not directly perceivable with our senses. Therefore, it is difficult to rally people, and our leaders tend to deny and delay action. Our culture of distraction and immediate gratification is averse to feeling and facing deep-seated, threatening fears. Yet fear is a necessary motivator: we must embrace fear and act on it, not avoid it.

Time to REALLY Respond Like We Are in an Emergency

Time is of the essence: the only sane response is dramatic action to stave off complete catastrophe. Both individual and collective action are needed, and we must mobilize all levels of society.

A centralized federal mobilization, with coordination and planning, is the essential core response – coupled with action at all other levels of government and society. Yet sadly, here in the US this is anathema to our anti-government, individualistic approach. This current administration is asleep at the wheel, even undermining state and local efforts – resulting in compromised, piecemeal responses.

This is making the situation much worse.

Unfortunately, there is a delay in seeing positive effects of actions taken. Therefore: (1) we are always behind where we think we are; (2) actions taken seem too soon; and (3) the needed measures go far beyond what is considered "politically possible". Delay has allowed the crisis to proliferate beyond control – the horses are out of the barn, galloping wildly.

The crisis calls upon us all to live more simply. Drastic constraints on human activity are needed. Yet our self-entitled culture perceives this as a loss of “freedom”, resulting in angry pushback and denial. Now more than ever, cooperation is desperately needed, but is sadly lacking for many.

    The Shattering of Normal

Our system's vulnerabilities and brutal shortcomings are now exposed. Meaningful action requires enormous economic sacrifice, displacing and devastating the lives of tens of millions of people in the US alone. A just transition is needed, requiring the retraining and support for millions of displaced workers. The working class and poor are more vulnerable and exposed, further adding to the miserable inequities already burdening large swaths of society.

The crisis is shattering “normal” business as usual – pointing to the need for complete system transformation.  Shattered means broken, beyond repair.  There will be no “normal” to return to.  Effective responses needed to adequately meet the threat will cause global depression. Entire economic sectors are now in question – especially the fossil fuel and travel industries – calling into question their future viability.

    What Is This Crisis?

Well, what threat are we talking about here? If you think this describes the COVID-19 crisis, you would be right. If you think this is about the global warming extinction crisis, you would be right, too. The parallels are quite amazing.

Of course, there are some differences. To contain the spread of coronavirus, physical distancing is required – urban density and mass transit make it worse. Not true for climate. The pandemic has gripped us with breathtaking speed, while the climate crisis has crept quietly toward us over decades. The scope and scale of the climate threat vastly overshadows the COVID threat. As enormous as this pandemic is, it is a mere opening chapter or dry run for what is coming with the looming climate catastrophe.

    Opportunity to Remake Everything

We are now fifty years on from the first Earth Day. The planet now carries over double the humans in 2020 than in 1970. Our increased impacts have only further devastated our Mother Earth and all her wild creatures. Measures enacted after the First Earth Day have been undermined by the Trump Administration. Nations have taken little climate action, wasting decades of precious time. This Earth Day provides us with little to celebrate.

However, crises of this magnitude tend to turn systems upside-down and inside-out – providing an opportunity to usher in a new order. The Emperor is now exposed as stark naked. As eco-footprint originator Bill Rees says, “The Earth and the Covid-19 Pandemic Is Telling Us We Must Rethink Our Growth Society.”

The pandemic has shown us that leaders in politics and business can act quickly and extensively, taking into account scientific knowledge. To fight coronavirus, majorities of peoples and Nations have been engaged and motivated to sacrifice for the sake of the whole. Most people understand we have to work together to beat COVID. Is it too much to imagine that we cannot work together to address global warming, and her morbid sisters such as soil depletion, plastic pandemonium, and ecosystem collapse?

  • Covid-19 and Changing the Climate: “Climate Change Brings the Specter of New Infectious Diseases”

Quite by chance, the scientific Journal of Clinical Investigation on 6 January 2020 published an update on the concern that global surface heating could see the emergence of new infectious diseases, as well as an increase in the prevalence of long known killer diseases. The title of the paper was “Climate change brings the specter of new infectious diseases.”

SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus or Covid-19) is a new infectious disease that has become a global pandemic.

This adds to the overwhelming evidence and the recommendations of climate scientists that we must put global greenhouse gas—especially carbon—emissions into decline on an immediate basis. One irony of the pandemic is that while governments and corporations only plan to keep emissions increasing, the new virus will most likely put them into decline this year. However, when the pandemic is over, those world powers will boost the fossil-fueled economy and global emissions more than ever. It’s an insanely evil plan for unprecedented suffering of humanity—and global suicide.

Here is a description of having Covid-19 from a healthy adult living a healthy lifestyle in a healthy, clean-air environment region of British Columbia, Canada:

“I began feeling 'unwell' late one night this month. I just felt off, no identifiable symptoms, just an over-all feeling of unwellness and tired. Next morning, I started the cough and sore throat, some sneezing but not much, not much of a runny nose, either, but cold-like symptoms, for sure. I just wanted to sleep, and I did, all day. Next day, I woke up with a headache and severe sore throat and coughing, like I have never coughed before!!! It was difficult to keep liquids down because I would cough so much, I'd puke everything up and that hurt the throat and stomach muscle really bad.

“The next day, I was coughing almost non-stop and barely able to catch a breath. I had a low-grade fever that came and went. Oh my god, my lungs and surrounding ribs hurt so much, I have never ever had such pain! The pain was horrible; even Tylenol 3 did nothing to diminish the pain. It also became almost impossible to sleep, and if I managed 10 minutes here and there, it was sitting up; there was no way you could lie down, or at least I couldn’t because it felt like my lungs were filling up with liquid whenever I did lie horizontally. My husband wanted to take me to the hospital but I was just too weak and sick. I just wanted to try and sleep... sleep and cough, more like cough and pain.

“But later when my lungs felt white hot and breathing was more difficult, we followed protocol and had an ambulance take me to the hospital. I needed help so bad! At the hospital, I was tested and given oxygen and allowed home with a prescription and instructions. At this stage, I have never been so sick and so sore all over in all my life!! And I still can't sleep more that 10 minutes at a time. Seven days on, I feel as though I can now see a light at the end of this horrible, horrible sickness. I can breathe a lot better, my coughing has lessened, and I am actually out of bed and walking around my room. I'm still in quarantine, of course.”

As the Journal of Clinical Investigation reports, SARS-CoV-2 is a new infection that started in the city of Wuhan, China with dangerous cases of “acute severe respiratory syndrome.”

The group of viruses called coronaviruses was first identified in the 1960s and reported by health authorities to be common in humans and responsible for a small percentage of common cold cases. The first known severe illness caused by a coronavirus emerged with the 2003 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic in China. A second outbreak of severe illness began in 2012 in Saudi Arabia with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

The accounts of people with severe respiratory distress have been explained by the research on the new respiratory virus.  Once in the body, it attacks the immunity cells that line our airways. Covid-19 is different in that it affects both the upper and lower respiratory tracts practically at once. Dying cells slough away, filling the airways with junk and carrying the virus deeper into the body, down toward the lungs. Blood vessels open up to carry more immune-bearing fluid to the invading Covid-19 virus. As the infection progresses, the lungs clog with dead cells and fluid, making breathing more difficult. The immune response may over-react, in which case even more fluid pours into the lungs.

The virus has spread extremely fast, though the average person with the virus infects 2 to 2.5 other people, which is not unusual for a respiratory virus. Pneumonia and respiratory failure are the cause of death of the fatal cases—mostly older people, and those with pre-existing disorders.

Returning to the specter of new infectious diseases paper, given that microbes can adapt to higher temperatures, there is concern that global warming will select for microbes with higher heat tolerance. These can defeat our defenses and bring on new infectious diseases. Under a new warmer environment, microbes will be pushed to adapt and, unlike mammals, they can do this quickly and appear as new virulent infectious diseases. In other words, after living with a stable climate for thousands of years, we humans have developed some degree of immunity to the known viruses and in modern times also developed vaccines for the most vulnerable populations. But all that is changing.

In all respects, our ability to adapt to a new hotter climate depends on how slowly the climate changes. According to a 2013 climate research paper called “Natural systems in changing climates,” today our greenhouse gas emissions have locked in a global surface temperature increase of at least 1.5°C, and by then the planet will be heating up ten times faster than any rate in the last 65 million years (our earliest ape ancestors only appeared on Earth about ten million years ago). Our industrial civilization is now changing the climate at a rate that viruses will cope with by changing to new virus strains, to which we will be vulnerable.

There are some wild rumors circulating on the internet that the Journal of Clinical Investigation paper dispels. Shortly after the epidemic began, Chinese scientists sequenced the genome of SARS-CoV-2 and made the data available to researchers worldwide. Using this information, on 17 March 2020, the science journal Nature Medicine published a research paper, “The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2.” The research analysis of the genome sequence data from SARS-CoV-2 found no evidence that the virus was made in a laboratory or otherwise engineered. It occurred through natural evolutionary mutation, assumed to have jumped from an infected non-human animal to human. “By comparing the available genome sequence data for known coronavirus strains, we can firmly determine that SARS-CoV-2 originated through natural processes,” said Kristian Andersen, PhD, an associate professor of immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research and corresponding author on the paper.

The research concluded that if the SARS-CoV-2 entered humans in its current pathogenic form from an animal source, it raises the probability of future outbreaks, as the illness-causing strain of the virus could still be circulating in the animal population and might once again jump into humans. The chances are lower of a non-pathogenic coronavirus entering the human population and then evolving properties similar to SARS-CoV-2. So far there is no scientific confirmation of a specific animal host.

All but about one and a half percent of us will survive this new virus, but if we don’t demand that governments at the very least stop subsidizing fossil fuels and boost the clean renewable energy industry—NOT the fossil fuel industries—the human race cannot expect to survive the changed hostile climate of our own making.

The impressive successful international response to the new virus does prove that collectively governments and citizens can unite to face a global life-threatening emergency. The healthcare community has responded brilliantly, and clinical trials on a vaccine have already begun. Now if we could get our act together on the climate disruption global threat to life, the future could still be bright.

  • What will it REALLY take for the governments of the world to fix the global warming extinction emergency which will unfold over the following decades?

At this very late stage of needed fossil fuel reductions, only government-enforced actions to reduce global fossil fuel use to the required 2025 target levels can save us from a global warming-caused extinction nightmare.

    Introduction

It does not come as a shock to most people to hear that our governments are not doing anything close to the needed actions that would save us from our current global warming emergency. Global fossil fuel use has not been reduced to anything even close to where we should be because our governments have ignored 35 years of valid and dire scientific warnings.

Our governments have repeatedly been the leading source of:

    a. grossly underestimated global warming consequence severity estimates and timetables, and

    b. grossly underestimated global fossil fuel reduction targets.

With the above statements in a and b above being proven accurate within the above links, the key question for humanity's future now becomes, "what will it take to get the governments of the world to finally enact the real fossil fuel reductions needed to end our global warming nightmare?"

If we do not answer this question correctly and soon, there will be no livable future for any of us.

Two realistic solution scenarios are presented in this article to answer this question. The most straightforward scenario is found in Scenario One. It is easier to do and digest because it does not have to come into being because of the increasing global warming consequence catastrophes found in Scenario Two.

Scenario Two is hard precisely because of the unconscionable mass suffering and death that will have to be endured if we have to wait for the Scenario Two global warming solution to unfold naturally.

Scenario One: How to get a large portion of the national and global population protesting on the global warming extinction emergency at the same time!

Scenario one is not only possible but is critical due to the urgency of this emergency.

Scenario One has two important parts:

Part 1. Scenario one starts with us, the world's environmental organizations, and our politicians solidly understanding that we must reduce all global fossil fuel use by 75% by 2025. Yes, you read that right, 75% is the needed number!

The current global fossil fuel reduction numbers that we have been given by our governments are WAY, way OFF and horribly wrong. We as individuals (as well as the world's environmental organizations,) first need to understand that we have been systemically and continually deceived by the fossil fuel industry's lobbied government authorities!

Our government authorities have cleverly hidden or muddled the real global fossil fuel use reduction targets by continuing to release new, different and still grossly incorrect reduction targets.

This wrong target issue is not a small matter. If we do not meet the real 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, we are in a life and death emergency. This is because if we fail to reach these targets, we will rapidly go over four extinction-evoking global warming tipping points explained in detail along with this extinction process's critical dates here.

You do not have to take our word that you have been systematically and continually deceived by well-financed national and international fossil fuel vested interests buying our politicians. You do not have to believe that this situation is much like the endless lies by the cigarette companies concerning the dangers of their products allowed by previous politicians for decades. You can read precisely how the "trusted" global warming authorities and our governments have "cooked" the fossil fuel global reduction numbers with shameless accounting tricks and omissions to benefit the fossil fuel industry here.

Once you have read the above "cooked books" link, next if you have not done so already, please read the critical details of the real 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets here. By the time you have read these two documents above, and about the four extinction-evoking global warming tipping points here, you should have no remaining reasonable doubt about:

    1. the extinction-level seriousness of the global warming emergency,

    2. how far away we are from fixing it, and

    3. why what you are about to read the next part of Scenario One that is absolutely necessary for our success!

Part 2. Because of what you have just read, (especially about the four soon arriving tipping points,) you now know why it is critical to get a large portion of humanity (from about 4-10%) into the streets protesting and demanding that our politicians immediately make the required 2025 global fossil fuel reductions to save us before it is too late. These massive public protests are needed because only government-driven and government-enforced actions will be able to make the changes in time to save us! (This urgency is also in part, due to our have having ignored 35 years of neglecting valid scientific warnings squandering the time during which we could have made the required reductions more gradually and easily.)

If we do not get large numbers of protesters into the street now, there is literally no chance we can not go over these 4 major tipping points.  If we go over these tipping points, there is no realistic way remaining to save humanity from a rapidly unfolding mass extinction event occurring over the next 30-50 years.

The really, really bad news here is that --- we have only six years left to prevent the coming mass extinction event by reducing global fossil use by 75 % by 2025!  (Here are the multiple actions that our governments need to enact immediately to reach the 2025 targets.)

You are probably wondering, how can we get more individuals and the biggest environmental groups to help us get up to 10% of the world's population into the streets protesting and demanding political action at the same time. This difficult multi-step mass protest building process is explained in Note #1 at the bottom of this page. (Please do not overlook reading this critical how to note!)

Scenario Two: Global warming consequences need to get much worse before our politicians and governments will act.

Societies and nations are a lot like individuals. Most individuals will only change their lives and behaviors when the pain of going forward is less than the pain that they are currently experiencing. It is often referred to as the point where an individual reaches "rock bottom" and finally becomes willing to make the necessary and challenging life changes.

It is highly probable that because nations and societies are like individuals, they too will not heed the global warming extinction emergency warnings until the pain of experiencing repeated ever-worsening global warming consequences is more than the fear of change and the pain of our current global fossil fuel reduction changes. Our governments will not enact and enforce the laws necessary to achieve the life-critical 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets until our governments:

    1. call the global warming extinction emergency what it is, and

    2. at least, 3.5% of the national and world's population is out in the streets demanding change, or

    3. experience global warming consequences that cost between 1/2 to one trillion dollars per single incident, and a shockingly massive number of individuals (100,000 or more) are killed or made homeless in the same event.

We have already had global warming-related storms in the US like Hurricane Sandy that cost of 300 billion dollars in damages, and we are having wildfires and flooding year after year coming close to that amount. However, this pain level is still not enough to offset the tremendous economic, political and social pain as well as the fear of change of making all of the necessary 2025 global fossil fuel reductions we need to make to keep the future safe.

The good news of Scenario Two is that the rapidly worsening reality of the global warming extinction emergency will soon become one of humanity's biggest allies. The financial and personal pain of both cumulative and ever-escalating global warming consequences will continue to steadily increase (by trend) in severity, frequency, and scale. They will keep rising until society, and the nations of the world are so depleted, beaten down, and shell-shocked by the continuous global warming consequences that they can no longer bear the ever-increasing pain and losses as things continue to worsen. At this "rock bottom" point, our politicians and governments will finally become willing to make the real and honest changes.

The bad news of Scenario Two is that unless the cumulative global warming consequences (like the 2020 massive wildfires in Australia.) do not increase quickly enough to the single incident 1/2 to 1 trillion dollar level with 100,000 people or more dying or homeless, we still will not pay sufficient attention to our extinction emergency to enact the government-enforced actions need to reduce global fossil fuel use in time. Our governments will not act in time to save us from a mass extinction nightmare of our own making. (Click here to see a comprehensive multistep overview of all that we have to do to make the necessary 2025 global fossil fuel reductions in time.)

Without a doubt, Scenario Two will happen will continue to develop and unfold all by itself. The only questions that remain in Scenario Two are:

    1. How long will it take us to get to 1/2 - 1 trillion dollar global warming single instance disasters with 100,000 or more killed or made homeless, and

    2. Will even those levels of massive loss and destruction be enough to get the world's politicians and governments into action on global warming before it is too late!

The bad news: Every legitimate global warming solution strategy is going to cause lots of pain and financial loss --- lots of pain and financial loss!

(The following will make a lot more sense if you first read Note #1 at the end of this document if you have not done so already.)

The question is, are we willing to endure a natural and appropriate transitional pain and financial loss for the lives and comfort of our children and future generations? Will our leaders educate us and invite us to be brave and make the necessary sacrifices. Will they inspire us to have the courage to do what is right, but painful?

There are already many environmental and global warming leaders who will speak the necessary truths. We now need to move them to the foreground!

    In quick summary

    1. Scenario One and Scenario Two will develop concurrently. Which one reaches a tipping point first is anyone's call. The real challenge is Scenario One or Two reaching fruition before it is too late to avoid total extinction.

    2. Scenario One is also based on the principle that when one is in an emergency, one bypasses the typical structures designed to handle the emergency, and one directly intervenes and handles the emergency themselves. Our politicians were supposed to be protecting us but have failed. Therefore, we have to bypass their inaction by going to the streets in such numbers demanding action that our politicians must act for fear of losing their jobs.

    3. Resistance or denial is what you add to reality to make it hurt more and last longer! That is what we will be doing with the global warming extinction reality if we continue to resist or deny its truth or, we fail to acknowledge we must come as close as we can to meet the 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets. These 2025 targets are our last credible chance to prevent crossing the four key extinction-evoking global warming tipping points to prevent human genocide and animal biocide.

    4. In the future, if we survive, when the world looks back at the global warming extinction emergency, those who continued to burn fossil fuels indiscriminately or did not cooperate to resolve this emergency while we still had time left will surely be considered guilty of crimes against humanity and genocide. This is because millions then billions will die in the following decades soon after we cross the four post-2025 extinction-evoking global warming tipping points and experience the cumulative effects of all global warming consequences.

If you took the time to read this document and review its supporting links and notes, you now have an honest view of the challenge that now lies before us in:

    1. what will it REALLY take for the politicians and governments of the world to finally act in an effective way to fix the global warming extinction emergency, and

    2. how difficult it be to reach our politicians and get them to make all of the needed government-driven changes in the little time that we have left.

In spite of all of the challenges and difficulties, what other options do we have? We either work together, or we die together in the mutually assured destruction (MAD) of the accelerating global warming extinction emergency!

What can you do to distribute this critical article and help get the needed number of global protesters into the streets?

Every one of the world's environmental organizations and each one of us is responsible for acting with urgency in this extinction emergency. You are also accountable, especially if you know or have a positive influence on politicians or you know the key managers or directors of any environmental group or, you know, any movie, sport, or music celebrities. If you know anyone in any of these categories, get this article to them as fast as possible and, where possible, connect them to the big environmental groups coordinating the next big protest.

If you do not know someone in any of the previous categories, you are still responsible to get this document to all of your friends. Post it to newsgroups and contact everyone else you can to ensure we get a large portion of your area, nation, and the world's population into the streets protesting the global warming extinction emergency.

Never forget that the 3.5% level of protests only gives us a 50% chance of getting our politicians to enact the necessary 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets and laws to save us from total extinction. We need to raise that protest participation level to 5-7-10 % or even higher to improve our 50/50 chance of saving the world. A 50% chance of saving humanity and our civilization is ridiculous and an unacceptable risk, threat, and uncertainty when the stakes are everyone and everything on Earth as well as all future generations.

Please embrace your responsibilities to inform others and connect the people who can make a difference:

    1. Spread the word and send this article to the key directors and managers of every environmental group you know.

    2. Please contact every celebrity you know and get them this article!

Don't worry if these organizations or individuals get multiple articles or other personal contacts from many different people. It will only call the extra needed attention to the urgency, importance, and necessity that their involvement requires for the future survival success of humanity as well as the success and survival of all animals and biological life on Earth.

Other than the environmental groups, unfortunately, generation Z and the Millenials are probably most responsible for getting this done. This burden of responsibility is not because they are ones or the generations who have created this extinction emergency, but because they are the ones who will suffer the most and die far too soon because of it.

Here is what the Job One for Humanity nonprofit organization (the author of this article) is willing to do

We are a small nonprofit climate research analysis organization with few staff and volunteers. Still, we are eager to use our mail lists (about 20,000) to help promote these protests once other nonprofit environmental organizations far larger than ourselves set a date, update their global warming reality-aligned messages for these protests, and set up the communication and coordination structures needed to have the protests be peaceful, global and successful.

We also have allies with mail lists that could potentially add another 100,000 to 400,000 email contacts to the effort for promoting these protests. Job One for Humanity will do everything within its power and resources to help make these last chance protests successful before it is too late.

    Last thoughts

You, your family, and children, as well as your businesses and nations, will endure ever-growing financial losses and suffer ever-escalating calamities as global warming consequences accelerate as they most certainly will. Millions then billions will starve and die in an already unfolding mass extinction event.

What most people fail to realize is that the worst global warming consequences will not increase slowly or gradually as they have done over the last 35 years while we ignored the warning of what was coming. As we cross more and more global warming tipping points, the worst global warming consequences will increase faster and faster, growing exponentially over time. (In the graph below, the red line is an example of linear growth and the green linean example of exponential growth.)

The exponential growth of global warming consequences after crossing these four most crucial tipping points after 2025 means that few people or governments will be able to stay up with the escalating consequences if we do not come close to hitting the future-critical 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets

The only question remaining of true importance is, how long will it be before our big environmental organizations collaborate with each other to make the needed new minimum of getting at least 3.5% of the population protesting at the same time to get our politicians to act to save us from extinction? (See note #1 below for how this can happen.)

If either Scenario One or Scenario Two does not happen in time because our politicians did not enact and enforce the laws needed to get very close to the 2025 targets, the global warming mass extinction war is lost. At that point, the only remaining battle will only be to prevent total extinction because mass extinction will be assured.

Your Personal global warming extinction emergency "Plan B" and other ideas

If we fail to achieve either Scenario One or Scenario Two in time or come as close as possible to the 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, there is no guarantee that we'll be successful in preventing total extinction. Therefore if failure to meet the 2025 targets is a possibility to you, it is time also to start thinking about or preparing your personal global warming Plan B.

Even though our fossil fuel reductions must be government-driven and government-enforced to save us in time from mass or total extinction, every reduction, no matter how small, still has value. In every situation, despite all the obstacles, the only way we save any part of a liveable future for even a tiny part of humanity is to radically and immediately cut fossil fuel use. These fossil fuel use reductions will slow down adding more carbon to the atmosphere enough so that we have more time to prepare, migrate, and adapt as well as possible. Every reduction in our personal, business, or governmental fossil fuel use means that more people will live longer, or more people will suffer less.

We are in deep trouble! If the world's environmental groups do not cooperate to get 3.5 % - 10% of the world's population into the streets protesting on the same day, there is only a small hope left to prevent mass extinction from happening. (See Note #1.)

This means that there will be no surviving mass or total extinction without mass and total cooperation.

If the world's environmental groups do not work together to save us in time and the world does not come together to tell its politicians to act now, we may discover that mass, and total extinction is the Earth's natural evolutionary and final solution for the destruction that its human virus is causing to the balance of wellbeing of all Earth's species. If we do not act now, the Earth's average global temperature will keep rising until it burns off the offending virus (us.) This is much like a fever in humans kills off our dangerous germs.

There is a Scenario 3, but it may not be as effective as the two scenarios listed above. Click here as find Scenario 3 on this long page.

An expanded summary of Chenoweth's 3.5% fruitful change movement research article is here.

Click here for a possible anthem or anthem ideas for the worldwide protests.

Key human system inertia factors relevant to making global warming solutions more challenging to achieve have been described at the bottom of this page and also on this page and in the book Climageddon.)

A description of the various climate system momentums pushing temperatures ever higher has been described in numerous studies as well as in the recently published book Climageddon.

    Key Notes:

Note # 1. How the largest environmental groups can get large numbers of people into the streets before it is too late

There has been important and relevant research on how to create successful social change at national levels by Erica Chenoweth, a political scientist at Harvard University. Although this research is not definitive of certain success and the global warming emergency has some differences from the other movements Chenoweth studied, it still offers helpful direction to guide us in reaching our politicians and getting the global warming extinction emergency fixed.

This research has discovered, among other things, that nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts or violent campaigns. Specifically, Chenoweth's studies found that those engaging a threshold level of 3.5% of the total population on a single focused issue in the same protest had a 50% chance of producing the desired change. Chenoweth looked at hundreds of campaigns over the last century.

Chenoweth's study primarily considered attempts to bring about regime change. A movement was deemed to be successful if it fully achieved its goals both within a year of peak engagement and as a direct result of its activities. A regime change resulting from foreign military intervention would not be considered a success. If the campaign involved bombings, kidnappings, the destruction of infrastructure, or any other physical harm to people or property, it was considered violent.

About half of the time, despite being twice as successful as violent conflicts, peaceful resistance still failed. As Chenoweth and her colleague, Stephan pointed out in their book, Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict sometimes this failure occurred because a change movement never really gained enough support or momentum to "erode the power base of the adversary and maintain resilience in the face of repression."

Regarding the "3.5% rule", Chenoweth points out that while 3.5% of the total population is a small minority, such a level of active participation probably also means many more people tacitly agree with the cause. Chenoweth also argued that nonviolent campaigns are more likely to succeed because they can recruit many more participants from a much broader demographic. This larger demographic then can cause severe disruption that paralyzes normal urban life and the functioning of society. In other words, the success of nonviolent protests was partly the result of strength in numbers.

Other researchers researching the factors that may lead to a movement's success or failures such as Bramsen and Chandler emphasize the importance of unity among demonstrators. For example, Bramsen points to the failed uprising in Bahrain in 2011. The Bahrain campaign initially engaged many protestors but quickly split into competing factions.

Bramsen forwards that the resulting loss of group cohesion ultimately prevented the movement from gaining enough momentum to bring about the desired changes. In the US, one only has to recall the Occupy Movement that eventually fell apart because it also tried to combine too many separate social movements and goals into its protests.

The influence of Chenoweth's new research can be seen in the success of the recent global Extinction Rebellion protests recently popularised by the involvement of the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg,  Fridays for the Future and Sunrise Movement as well as other youth movements leaving school on a regular basis to protest our global warming extinction emergency. (The founders of these groups say they have been directly inspired by her findings.)

Chenoweth says groups like Extinction Rebellion are up against a lot of inertia, but she thinks that they have an incredibly thoughtful and strategic core. They seem to have all the right instincts about how to develop and teach through a nonviolent resistance campaign."

Challenge One: How do we get Chenowith's 3.5% protest option to happen successfully around the world

We need to get the world's environmental groups to work together. The world's environmental groups MUST work together to get more than the rock bottom minimum of 3.5% of the national and global population protesting at the same time on a simple, clear, and accurate message within the next 12 months or less. This getting 3.5% is a tall order for numerous reasons.

Here is why. Most of the world's environmental groups:

    1. do not see global warming as the central or even the most destructive disruptor and driver for the worsening of most of today's environmental issues. They do not understand the complexities of the multifaceted climate system and its hundreds of tipping points. They also do not understand the many complex adaptive system characteristics of the global warming extinction emergency.

Climate science is not their area of specialty. Consequently, these organizations have not fully connected the coming extreme global warming consequences to the near-impossibility of achieving their future environmental goals. They somehow still believe they can continue with their specific eco-mission goals without focusing most of their resources on solving the rapidly accelerating global warming extinction emergency.

    2. have failed to educate their members that only strict new global fossil fuel reduction laws that comply with the REAL 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets strictly enforced by all of our governments will have any realistic hope of saving us before it is too late.

    3. have also failed to have the courage to tell their members that at this late stage of our global fossil fuel reduction failure, there will be no saving the world or national economies if we want to save humanity. The honest and needed 2025 global fossil fuel reductions will be extremely costly and painful, requiring great public and national sacrifice and suffering. The fossil fuel lobbyist demand that all needed global fossil fuel reductions must pay for themselves and not hurt the local, national, and global economies is, at this late extinction facing stage, a ludicrous delusion. At worst, this idea that all global fossil fuel reductions must not hurt their respective economies is a demand and delusion that is both counter-productive to humanity's survival and toxic to having a post-global warming future worth living.

    4. have failed to have the courage to admit that the grossly inadequate current global warming remedial strategies and the current global fossil fuel reduction tactics are not working fast enough to save us and the biosphere from horrendous suffering and death. If we continue as we are now and our governments do not enforce the necessary fossil fuel reductions, our current remedial strategies will be far too little far too late. We will not just be dealing with an ongoing and unavoidable mass extinction event; we also will eventually be facing total extinction.

If we keep going as we are now, we will eventually be facing total extinction by way of the runaway greenhouse effect or runaway global warming. (When we say mass extinction as opposed to total extinction, we mean that over the next 30-50 years we will not be able to avoid as much as 70-90% of humanity will perish from starvation, the cumulative consequences of global warming, and by crossing the four most dangerous extinction-evoking global warming tipping points described on this page.

    5. have not come out publically and told their members that it is far too late for individual actions by themselves. Individual actions alone will not reduce global fossil fuel use enough to save us from constant global warming consequence horrors and mass or eventual total extinction.

    6. have allowed themselves to become overly-directed by modern marketing principles where issues are dummied down. Today's biggest environmental groups are repeatedly told by their marketing departments not to give their members too much bad or fearful news, or they will leave and stop donating. Modern marketing principles applied to environmental groups have got many of them treating their members like easily frightened children and not adults capable of dealing with or managing bad news.

Today's biggest environmental groups seem tom have forgotten that telling people a painful and difficult truth is not an act of scaring them. It is an act of informing them of reality, so as adults, they can make better choices from their remaining options.

    7. they are afraid to fully cooperate with other environmental groups because of the fear of the loss of staff, donors, or members who might become more attracted to another organization's mission or personalities.

    8. They have not dealt with society's fear of change causing much social inertia about doing what must be done to resolve this extinction emergency. (How to deal with this additional major problem will be discussed in note number four below.)

Other key reasons for the biggest environmental groups lack of cooperation and ineffective action on this critical issue and our biggest disruptor in the 21st century is because the world's environmental groups:

    a. have bought into the highly politicized and wealthy nation biased gross underestimations of how much we need to reduce our global fossil fuel use and what is necessary to save us from global warming catastrophe,

    b. have bought into the gross underestimates of global warming consequences and timetables,

    c. have bought into the desperate hope that a knight in shining armor on a white horse will gallop in to save us in the form of uber-optimism and blind faith that new technologies (yet to be proved at the needed scale,) will save us at the last minute, and maybe most importantly,

    d. have failed to develop a simple, accurate global warming message of sufficient urgency and clarity. This message failure is critical because having the correct message will inspire the people of the world to quickly mobilize more than 3.5 % of our global and national population to protest in the streets.

There are workable solutions for the biggest reasons why the world's environmental groups have not mobilized at least 3.5% of the world's population to force our politicians to act.

The world's environmental groups can solve many of the reasons listed above for their failure to cooperate adequately on the global warming extinction emergency by reviewing the rest of this document, reviewing the reference links on this page and getting up to speed on the complex science of our rapidly evolving global warming condition. Once they have done that, they can make new policy decisions on how they want to educate and collaborate with other environmental groups during this emergency. Once they have set the new policies, they are ready for the critically needed global warming messaging upgrade.

Hopefully, the following information will expedite their process of doing this.

"If you can't call a thing what it actually is, it is highly unlikely you will be able to manage or fix it." Lawrence Wollersheim

Almost all of the world's environmental groups have not called our REAL global warming condition for what it is --- a global warming extinction emergency. Most environmental groups are still using the fossil fuel industry lobbyist forwarded favorite climate change term to describe the global warming extinction emergency.

Climate change as a term confuses, muddles, dissipates focus, and sucks urgency out of the real and escalating dangers and urgency of the escalating global warming extinction emergency.

Because the world's major environmental groups have not accurately done this first critical "call it what it is" step correctly, their current solutions also do not match or resolve the real emergency or its urgency! Without accurately naming what is occurring today with our global warming extinction emergency, the proper deadlines, priorities, and collaboration needed to resolve this problem will not be created or executed in time.

    What not to say?

Some environmental groups, activists and even a few progressive politicians have just taken to calling the global warming emergency "an existential threat to our future." Existential is a vague term that does not clearly answer when or how this threat comes about or, what causes it or, where it will occur.

The definition of existential is; "relating to or concerning existence or having to do with the philosophy of existentialism." Generally, an existential threat is perceived by most people as something fuzzy occurring at some indeterminate future date. When you say "we are in a global warming extinction emergency that will unfold worldwide over the next 30-50 years. It will be caused by crossing four critical global warming tipping points, and that this will occur if we fail to meet the needed 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets," you are using terms which concisely convey the real urgency of this emergency and which everyone can understand even if they do not like what they mean.

Luckily this call it what it is problem can be easy to resolve based on new messaging that honestly describes the current global warming condition and emergency. It is the following new messaging that environmental groups should start using as they cooperate toward getting more than 3.5% of the population of the world into the streets.

There are three main basics to the new messaging for all environmental groups relating to global warming

    It is as follows:

    i. Because of wasting the past 35 years of scientific warnings (when we still could have acted, and the necessary fossil fuel reductions would have been much more gradual and comfortable,) the critically needed 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets will now be extremely steep, costly and painful. Therefore, we need to call the people of the world to rise to the shared sacrifice and suffering necessary to meet the 2025 fossil fuel reduction targets.

ii. If we do not radically reduce our global fossil fuel use immediately to meet the unbiased 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets, we will cross four critical tipping points and a global warming mass extinction process will continue to unfold! (By Mass extinction, we mean that as much as 70-90% of humanity will suffer and die within the next 30-50 years if we fail! Some of our more courageous scientists are already calling our current emergency the sixth mass extinction, aka the Holocene extinction or Anthropocene extinction. Extinction due to global warming is not a merely theoretical extinction outcome that could never happen. There have been five earlier mass extinction events in Earth's history.) And finally,

iii. Because of our collective waste of 35 years of scientific warnings and other factors involving both climate system momentum and human system inertia (resistance to change,) we are already facing unavoidable severe global warming consequences, mass starvation, and mass extinction of a large percentage of humanity and our animal species. Because this mass extinction process is unavoidable at our current level of global fossil-fuel reduction, we must now also adapt and prepare for what is coming. We must do this while we do our best to prevent total extinction and our mutually assured destruction (MAD) from occurring.

By 2025 we must get very close to these required global fossil fuel target reductions to avoid crossing four critical global warming tipping points. Crossing these four tipping points will take us beyond our already ongoing mass extinction process and lead us to the vestibule of total extinction and into the runaway greenhouse process.

In the most simple of terms, our new message should be clear that:

It is time for the world to act to reduce fossil fuel use radically. It also time prepare for, adapt to, and migrate away (where possible) from our unavoidable global warming-caused mass extinction process while simultaneously doing everything possible to prevent the even worse total extinction process from beginning.

Our simultaneous Plan B is simple. If we fail to hit the 2025 targets, then we need to do everything we can to save and salvage as much as we can for as long as we can.

The above "deeper truth" new messaging will mobilize far more people or get them "mad as hell" that we have already let global warming get this bad. It will get them into the streets. We also need far more than 3.5% of the population to understand the above messaging. When people understand the survival simplicity that "this is their last practical chance to save themselves and their children from global warming mass or total extinction within their lifetimes," they will fill the streets.

This upgraded message is a powerful, accurate message that should also motivate the media to give the new global warming extinction emergency protests more coverage as well. Past messages like "ending coal energy generation" or "stopping the Keystone pipeline" or "instituting cap and trade agreements," "using less fossil fuel," or the "Green New Deal" have already failed and will not sufficiently excite or unite the world to act.

If we can get at least 3.5% of the national and global populations to come out and protest on the global warming extinction emergency on the next Earth Day (unless someone can argue for a more suitable date,) maybe we can get our politicians to act in time to save some part of humanity and civilization for the future. (If Earth Day is the best day for the protests, it also must be focused exclusively on the global warming extinction emergency, or we will lose the needed single issue impact effectiveness of the protests as discussed above. Please also note that because of the Coronavirus pandemic it may not even be possible to schedule these protests until 2021.)

How we do this also includes all of the world's environmental groups united with Greta Thunberg and the new youth groups like Extinction Rebellion and Fridays for the Future and the Sunrise Movements who have momentum and have managed to get an estimated 7 million people worldwide protesting on one day in 2019. These groups have also presented very close messages to the global warming extinction emergency message being presented here.

The minimal 3.5 % protestor numbers we need within the next 12-18 months are staggering. The time for our governments to act to meet our last chance, 2025 targets grows shorter every day. The challenge of meeting these 2025 targets is near overwhelming!

We need to cooperate and at least meet the minimum 3.5 % protester targets this year to mobilize about 14 million in the US, about 14 million in Europe, and about 280 million protesters worldwide. These amounts are needed to reach the minimum 50% successful change rate described above. To get the minimum 3.5% of the population in the streets protesting is going to require the following in addition to the correct new message mentioned above:

    1. Only the most substantial and best-resourced environmental organizations with the most extensive global reach in co-ordination with the other largest, best-resourced environmental organizations should begin immediately to plan and set the dates for the first of these global protests. They will have better infrastructure to facilitate the largest coordinated protests the world has ever seen.

    2. Once the dates have been set, and the essential co-ordination and communication infrastructure is in place, all of the other environmental groups around the world need to be contacted and invited to participate. Their members will need to help promote this protest day as well.

3, the largest and best-resourced environmental organizations would next coordinate with their media connections and then with the smaller worldwide environmental groups media connections to develop the most extensive media coverage of a global protest ever achieved.

Nothing less than a total involvement of almost all worldwide environmental groups will be needed if we are ever going to get just to the minimum 3.5% of the population protesting threshold. But...

Challenge 2: There is still a significant problem with getting 3.5% of the population to protest!

3.5% of the people protesting in the streets only gives a 50% chance of getting our politicians to enact the necessary global fossil fuel reduction laws to save us from total extinction. Having only a 50% probability of avoiding the total extinction of humanity and the end of civilization is simply an unacceptable risk to reward or penalty ratio. This risk to danger level is insane when the future of all life on the planet is as stake.

No one would get on an airplane where there was a 50% chance of crashing and not landing successfully. We need to raise the percentage of your nation's and the world's population protesting at one-time much higher by getting a far more significant portion of the world into the streets!

What we really should be targeting for is about 5- 7 or 10% or more of the population acting at one time. With those numbers, no politician would dare take the side of the vested interests in the fossil fuel-related industries over the wellbeing of the people for fear of being removed from office in the next elections. Although 3.5% of the US or the European Union is about 14 million people, the real targets should be about 28-40 million people to ensure our politicians act to save their own families and us in time!

On a global level, 3.5% is about 280 million people, 7% about 560 million, and 10 % about 800 million. Targeting for only 3.5% is grossly insufficient and may likely be targeting for failure.

Challenge 3: To get the kind of real numbers of protesters we need one more key ingredient

We must get the world's major and minor celebrities in the areas of movies, music, and sports from every country and ethnicity working to promote and attend the scheduled day of world global warming extinction emergency protests. This celebrity effort means that every environmental group that has connections to these types of national and global celebrities must contact them and get them involved in promoting the global day of protest in their media appearances and in their independent events. This also means that any individual who has a direct relationship with any of these kinds of celebrities must contact them and get them involved and active.

We must get the world's celebrities involved, or we will not get enough pre-event media coverage to get enough protestors at these simultaneous protest events all over the world. All eco-organizations and their members also need to coordinate on finding and utilizing celebrity contacts in the fields of the world's sports, music, and movies for appearances at the actual days of protest making speeches or even performing.

Only by making this day of protest the greatest single collection of celebrities united for one cause and purpose protesting with the general population in the streets, do we have a realistic hope of getting the 3.5% and the beyond percentages that are needed. Only by making these protests also the largest day of global protest in human history will we have a decent chance of saving the future.

One final idea for making this day of protest successful is to also have a musical anthem for the protests. Sometimes the world needs an anthem to promote a worthy cause – look at how the music of Live-Aid and Band-Aid had such a powerful impact on Ethiopia. As Woody Guthrie once said, "A folk singer's job is to comfort the disturbed, and disturb the comfortable" Here's a link to an example of a new original modern-day folk song that highlights the need for awareness and action on the global warming extinction emergency. Hopefully, it may also provide ideas for the final anthem selection.

View this musical anthem for the global warming movement here on Youtube: There Is No Planet B

Challenge 4: There is still another major problem remaining to get enough protesters in the streets!

Even with their resources, the world's largest environmental organizations with broad global reach will need help. This is where the world's largest philanthropies and corporations need to step up and help them finance the expanded global logistics to coordinate these massive simultaneous demonstrations in cities over the world with thousands of other environmental organizations and their members and volunteers. (Click here for a new article from the Chronicle of Philanthropy on why philanthropies need to do this.) And finally,

Challenge 5: There is still one final super problem remaining here! How to get our motivated politicians to get our governments to immediately act upon practical deadline-driven steps that will remove the total extinction threat from humanity.

Keep in mind that getting at or above the 3.5% public protest threshold is only the beginning of a long and challenging global fossil fuel energy use reduction process that our governments must first enact into law and then rapidly enforce. Right now, most of what they are doing are actions that, at best, amount to far too little far too late to save us from total extinction.

The needed government actions are multifaceted, complex, and challenging. To see a summary of ALL of the challenging and practical steps that the governments must enact and enforce simultaneously to manage this extinction emergency, click here.)

The probability of getting enough (3.5%, 5%, or 10%) of the population protesting in the streets at the same time to give us a fighting chance even to get our politicians started on the problem is going to be a herculean challenge. But, what other rational options do we have other than to try?

At worst, getting close to the target 3.5%, 5% or 10% population protest levels should at least get our governments to slow down many of the now unavoidable coming mass extinction global warming consequences so more of us have time to prepare, adapt and live out as much of our lives as we can as comfortably as we can.

Note # 2. We are releasing this article under our policy of respectful disruption described here. It has and will be sent to the management and boards of environmental groups worldwide. Should those groups ignore this effort at updating their positions on global warming we will have no hesitation of implementing the second more public phase of respectful disruption also described here.

Note # 3. It is shameful that the new youth movements mentioned above in this article are leading protests and building awareness of the real global warming extinction emergency. This extinction threat awareness should have been the job of our most prominent environmental organizations!

Note #4. Society's fear of change is also a major cause of the social inertia concerning doing what must be done to resolve this extinction emergency. The following is how Part Three of the Job one for Humanity plan handles this issue:

We must create adequate national and international new job transition training and recovery subsidies and funding that would assist all individuals, businesses, and nations that will suffer significant financial losses or closures because of the rapidly falling use of fossil fuels. For example, carbon Fee and Dividend revenues will help compensate and assist developing nations in stopping using fossil fuels. It will also help developing nations leapfrog over the building or expanding any current fossil fuel energy generation systems directly into building or expanding green energy generation systems like solar or wind power.

We cannot forget to financially both compensate and subsidize and actively assist all of those individuals, businesses, and nations who will be harmed financially in this rapid transition away from fossil fuels. This support would naturally also include providing new job training in positions for the new green economy or positions in other industries.

This step is critical to the success of all global fossil fuel reduction procedures, especially when the needed 2025 reductions are so severe. It is the unsurfaced fear of change and how it will harm the current status quo, which is a major source of the inertia that has prevented humanity from effectively managing the global warming extinction emergency over the last 35 years.

If we do not handle this fear of change by assuring those whose jobs, livelihoods or assets are threatened we will assist them in this transition and help minimize any losses, it is highly unlikely we will be successful making the required 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets. (Please see the following research article on cultural trauma, social inertia and climate change for a deeper understanding of the critical early importance of implementing this fear of change management and compensation step.)

  • How Pandemics Like Coronavirus (Covid19) Are Caused or Exacerbated by the Hidden Global Warming Emergency

You be the judge on why our governments are not talking to us about how global warming is creating pandemics?

    Dear members and visitors,

Our all-volunteer staff is reeling a bit from all that needs to be done to protect themselves and their families and businesses from the coronavirus until a vaccine is found. Because of this temporary refocusing of our volunteers on personal survival issues, we have not been able to keep up with routine services, new blog posts, newsletters, fundraising, etc.

Hopefully, with these new posts and our volunteer staff having more time over the next 2-4 few weeks, we will have time to pick up on our regular operations once again.

But in the meantime, I also thought you should know that...

Escalating global warming is creating or exacerbating pandemics like Covid19 in several ways:

    1. Global warming is quickly destroying the natural habitat of wild animals. This forces the wild animals (like bats) into closer proximity with humans making it easier for the animal viruses (zoological viruses,) to cross over into humans. This has happened with the Covid 19 virus.

    2. Global warming is and will continue to cause increasing crop failures, hunger, and famine. This will force poor and starving individuals to hunt, capture, live in closer proximity, and eat more wild animals. This will once again make it easier for animal viruses to cross over into humans. This was also most likely an important component part of the original Covid 19 outbreak in a wild animal market.)

    3. Global warming is melting increasing amounts of millennia-old tundra and permafrost, releasing long trapped and frozen bacteria and viruses that humans have never seen and for which they have no resistance.

The above means that it is inevitable that we will be seeing more pandemics, but not every hundred years as has occurred for the last few thousand years. Because of our escalating global warming emergency, global pandemics could quickly become every decade or sooner occurrences.

We are all trying to recover together. We will get through this at some point.

In the meantime, if you can, please help us out with a tax-deductible donation. This is because donations are down and we do not believe the US government will give our nonprofit organization with its all-volunteer staff any financial assistance (as they are doing with other nonprofits with paid staff or businesses.)

    Take care of yourselves,

    Lawrence Wollersheim

    Executive Director

PS: Also please do not forget that we have only six years left to reduce our global fossil fuel use enough to prevent a mass extinction event from unfolding over the next 30-50 years. The coming mass extinction event will be far worse than the Covid19 pandemic.

The global warming mass extinction process will be caused by crossing four critical global warming tipping points. Find out what these four tipping points are here

While we struggle through this pandemic, we cannot forget the far bigger battle ahead of us isthe global warming extinction emergency!
